Child Vaccine Schedule by Age
Children get most routine vaccines between birth and 6 years, with more at ages 11 to 12 and 16. The table below shows the main vaccines at each age, based on the American Academy of Pediatrics 2026 schedule. Your pediatrician may adjust it for your child.

How do I book a vaccine appointment?
Call 630-755-5437 and tell us your child’s age and which vaccines are due. Bring your child’s vaccine record and insurance card. We have offices in Bolingbrook, Downers Grove and Darien, and we can book you at the one that suits you best.
Can my child get vaccines when they have a cold?
A mild cold without a fever usually does not stop a child from getting vaccines. A moderate or severe illness may mean waiting. Call us before the visit and describe the symptoms, and the doctor will tell you whether to keep the appointment.
What if my child is behind on vaccines?
Children who are behind can catch up. The catch-up schedule spaces the missing doses based on your child’s age and past shots. Bring any vaccine records you have, and our pediatricians will review them and plan the doses with you.
What side effects can a vaccine cause?
Common side effects are a sore arm or leg, redness, tiredness and a mild fever for a day or two. Serious reactions are rare. Call us if you are worried, and call 911 right away for trouble breathing, swelling of the face or a seizure.
Does my child need a flu shot every year?
Yes. Flu vaccine is given every year to children from 6 months of age, because flu viruses change each season. Call us to ask about current flu vaccine availability and to book a visit.
